About
POPCHOP

Popchop is the vision of festival founder and publisher Matthias Balgavý, who, together with Philipp Stürzenbecher, first brought the format to life as a three-day festival in 2022. The thematic focus lies on raising awareness of our future food culture, culinary hedonism, innovative food production, and its economic, ecological, and societal impact.

Our centerpiece, the Popchop Magazine—available in print and online—examines relevant topics with journalistic care and curiosity. We cover everything that significantly influences our food culture, from production and agriculture to gastronomy and technology. Our approach is creative, innovative, and fact-based, presented within a sophisticated magazine design.

What does „Future Food Culture“ mean to us?

Popchop is not only a source of information but also a bridge between food and pop culture. It serves as an umbrella term for stories that our editorial team considers forward-looking. Our issues feature inspiring narratives about people, organizations, and companies shaping the world of food culture. We explore topics such as sustainability, design, and taste, taking our readers on a journey of discovery.

The Popchop Festival and our medium complement each other seamlessly. Local and international speakers, producers, and experts bring their innovations to the festival. These contributions are incorporated into our magazine, enriched with reports, commentary, and planned future formats such as podcasts.
